From the list, you can see that the number of volumes issued each year were:

  • 1849 – 13
  • 1850 – 11
  • 1851 – 16 including four two-volume titles
  • 1852 – 16 including two two-volume titles
  • 1853 – 14
  • 1854 – 22
  • 1855 – 10 including one two-volume title and counting

It is interesting to note that the greatest number of titles from one author in the list are the 14 by Edward Bulwer Lytton. These all appear in 1854 and 1855, following the contract that the author signed with George Routledge in December 1853. The second and third most common authors in the list are Harrison Ainsworth with 8 titles and James Fenimore Cooper with 7 titles. The first 35 titles or so were published from 36 Soho Square with the remainder were published from 2 Farringdon Street.
